After nearly five years of beautiful yet snoozy presentations, Marchesa founders Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig have finally breathed life into their models, taking them off pedestals and sending them strutting down the catwalk for the first time. The designers could not have picked a better way to showcase their Spring 2012 collection, a line inspired by a 19th century Ilya Repin painting of an underwater kingdom. The result was an undulating sea of tulle, organza, silk, and embroidery which glistened and rippled with the models’ every move.
