Fashion designer Whitney Pozgay’s looks for WHIT’s S/S 2014 collection are characterized by playful mix-and-match prints and jungle florals. The collection is an ode to the island of Bali and, fittingly, the stage for today’s presentation was Banchet, a flower shop in Chelsea.Orchids and banana leaves popped from dresses and shirts, bringing to mind the lush, monkey-inhabited forests that cover most of Bali’s landscape. Black and white checks recalled the ceremonial gingham fabric that is draped over religious statues on the island, evoking the Hindu belief that all spirits contain a balance of good and evil—a notion that is also relevant in the fierce world of fashion.
