One morning a few weeks ago, while I was getting ready for work, I turned on GMA for a quick check of the weather. But instead of Ginger Zee in front of a big ol’ map, I found anchor Amy Robach sitting across from Amy Adams, who was promoting her new movie Big Eyes. I listened to the interview while putting on my mascara.
Amy Robach: Blahblahblah?
Amy Adams: Blahblah…Blahblahblah.
Amy Robach: What is the best piece of advice ever given to you?
Amy Adams: Keep your eyes on your own paper… Pay attention to your own race. Try not to compare yourself or judge yourself based on anyone else.
I stopped what I was doing and turned to face the TV. In this cutthroat world of go-getters and one-uppers, is it really possible to not constantly compare yourself to your peers? The answer is yes!
A little healthy competition is a good thing and can even push you to do your best. But if you start thinking more about what others are doing and less about your own goals, you end up putting your success on the line. Focus on yourself and great things will come.
