Mood Board Monday: Summer Denim

Ocean Blues - Summer Denim
I usually put away my denim for the summer, but this season designers are giving the fabric an irresistible warm-weather reboot. Lisa Marie Fernandez is even making swimsuits out of the material! Her swimwear is definitely the biggest splurge on my list of summer denim must-haves, but something tells me the suits are worth it.

1. See By Chloe Two-Tone Denim Espadrille
2. Fresh Life Oval Soap
3. Stella McCartney Falabella Star-Print Denim Clutch
4.L’Agence Denim Paperbag Waist Shorts
5. Lisa Marie Fernandez Arden Flounce Denim Swimsuit
6. Madewell Chambray Muralist Jumpsuit

Shoe of the Summer: Gladiator Sandals

Gladiator Sandals- Then and Now

Before Valentino featured gladiator sandals on his Spring/Summer 2015 catwalk, they were a favorite of Carly Simon–in the 1960s. That’s my favorite thing about old trends, they never really leave us. Even when they spiral out of fashion, they are destined to make a comeback.

In the late 60s and early 70s, gladiator sandals were the perfect match for mod girls and hippies alike. They disappeared in the 80s and 90s, and made a brief comeback in the late 2000s before vanishing in the wake of Birkenstock-inspired sandals. Featured in Spring/Summer 2015 collections of Valentino and Chloe, among others, the strappy style is now flying off shelves at Barneys and Bergdorf, poised to take the throne as the shoe of the summer.

Trending: Bucket Bags

Bucket List

It all started with Laurel Pantin’s video for Look TV’s “A Stylish Life.” The opening scene shows Lucky magazine’s former fashion market editor sitting on her UES stoop, sharing the spotlight with her Mansur Gavriel bucket bag. After that, the purse quickly became the Holy Grail of bucket bags, coveted for its minimalist style, simple silhouette, versatility, and reasonable price.
We’re not all so fortunate to have a Mansur Gavriel, but lucky for us the whole fashion world has hopped on the bucket bag bandwagon.
