Beauty Review: Tata Harper Purifying Cleanser

Tata Harper Purifying Cleanser Review

I just finished my bottle of Tata Harper Purifying Cleanser and after I write this post I’m going online to order another one. Why? Keep reading…

Product: Tata Harper Purifying Cleanser
Details: A non-toxic, balancing facial cleanser made of 100% natural ingredients (like broccoli extract!!), this cleanser washes away toxins, excess oil, and dead skin cells, leaving your skin refreshed.
Price: $62 at Sephora.com
Pros: This soap-free cleanser has a silky consistency and deep cleans without drying out my face. After use, my skin feels clean, supple, and well-balanced. It also evens out any redness and minimizes the appearance of the pores around my nose and chin–a constant problem for me.  What’s more, this cleanser smells so yummy–like a walk through a field of wild flowers and herbs!
Cons: The expensive price tag. I will say though that it lasts a long time because a little goes a long way.
Final Say: I give it a 5 out of 5. I love that it’s 100% non-toxic, and that it leaves my skin feeling super clean and amazingly soft, smooth, and smelling beautifully. It’s perfect for my combination skin and balances my oily T-zone, especially in the summer.

Beauty Product Review: Shu Uemura Touch of Gloss Brilliant Melt-In Wax

Shu Uemera Place HolderShu Uemura Touch of Gloss Brilliant Melt-In Wax

Oh to have hair that cooperates! Strands that are defined yet soft, and unbelievably shiny seem like their impossible to obtain–but they’re not. Shu Uemura’s Touch of Gloss Brilliant Melt-In Styling Wax tames and smooths air dried hair, and revitalizes hair that was styled the day before. I just recently discovered it, and I cannot wait to tell you all about. So please keep reading!

Product: Shu Uemura Touch of Gloss Brilliant Melt-In Wax
Details: A low-hold, strand-defining styling balm with shimmery, light-reflecting mica minerals to make hair look shiny all day long.
Price:
$38
Pros:
The wax is infused with silvery flecks of mica minerals that make my hair appear shiny. It’s sticky when I squeeze it into the palm of my half, but the stickiness goes away when I rub my hands together and run them through my hair. The product is enriched with rose sakura essence and other minerals extracted from Japanese cherry blossom trees. The floral scent is sweet, light, feminine, and so heavenly! The end result is amazing smelling hair that is glossy and soft with ends that look refreshed and defined.
Con:
I wish the price wasn’t so high.
Final Say:
I use this product to tame and smooth my slightly frizzy air dried hair when I don’t feel like blow drying that day, or as an energy-boost for hair that I styled the day before. In both instances, it makes my hair look fresh and shiny. (Note, I don’t use it when I’m blow drying because I’d rather use a heat protectant.) I’m not sure what I did before this product. Please try it and let me know what you think! P.S. A little goes a long way–I have below-the-shoulder-length hair and use only a pea-sized amount each time.

Beauty Product Review: Benefit They’re Real! Mascara

Benefit They're Real! Mascara with hashtag
I’m a makeup purist, but if there’s one thing I like to go a bit daring with it’s my eyelashes. Since I don’t wear a lot of makeup, I’m constantly searching for a mascara that makes my long lashes look fuller and my eyes pop. Have I found it in Benefit They’re Real! mascara? Keeping reading to find out…

Product: Benefit They’re Real! mascara
Details: An inky-black, long-lasting mascara that makes lashes look long and voluminous while keeping their curl in tact.
Price: $24 at Sephora
Pros: Lengthening and volumizing with the help of a strategically spiky plastic brush.
Cons: Long-lasting to a fault.
Final Say: I give They’re Real! a 4 out of 5. I’ve been using it for a little more than a month now and I love how long, full, and dramatic my lashes look and how easily they keep their curl with this formula. The plastic, spiky wand is awesome, too–the staggered bristles lift from the root for extra umph and also help me apply the mascara evenly. The only downside? I appreciate the long-lasting formula, but removing the mascara can be a pain. No matter how much I tug at my lashes with makeup remover, I feel like they’re never 100% clean when I go to sleep.

Beauty Product Review: Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Shampoo and Conditioner

Bona Style Blog Bumble and Bumble Invisible Oil Shampoo and ConditionerBumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Shampoo and Conditioner are amazing! They might be great for you… But, sadly, they’re not for me. Here’s why:

Product: Bumble and bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Shampoo and Conditioner
Details: Sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner with “six different feather-light oils for complete hair transformation.”
Price: $31 for the shampoo, $34 for the conditioner
Pros: These are the best smelling shampoo and conditioner I’ve ever used in my life. They smell sweet and fruity and tropical and heavenly. Also, I love the neon orange font on the bottles–I’m not kidding, it actually makes me excited and happy to have something neon to brighten up my shower. Also, the shampoo lathers much better than any other sulfate-free shampoo I’ve ever used.
Cons: I’ve used these products off and on for a few months and have finally come to terms with the fact that they are way too oily for my hair and skin. (I’m so jealous of you ladies who do not have this problem!!!) Even though Bumble and Bumble promises that the oils in these products are “feather-light,” they weigh down my hair in a greasy, unflattering manner, and also cause unsightly breakouts on my hairline and face… eew.
Final Say: I want so much to love these products, but I have to advise anyone with fine hair and skin that’s prone to breakouts to steer clear of it. I’m going to start trying out Bumble and Bumble’s other shampoos and conditioners though–I’m determined to find ones that are right for me!

Beauty Product Review: YSL Baby Doll Kiss and Blush

Bona Style Blog YSL Kiss and Blush No. 2I’m all about easy makeup, which is why I’m obsessed with YSL Baby Doll Kiss and Blush. Here’s why you should be too:

Product: YSL Baby Doll Kiss and Blush, shade No. 2
Details: A 2-in-1 ultra-blendable, air-whipped mousse makeup that adds color to your cheeks and lips.
Price: $40.00
Pros: The smooth mousse formula is both moisturizing and long-lasting. The gel-like consistency makes it easy to blend into your cheeks and lips with your fingers. It gives me the perfect, natural flushed look–like my cheeks are glowing from within! The applicator sponge is slightly angled and pear shaped which is ideal for dotting and smoothing the product on my cheeks and lips.
Cons: I love, love, love this color for my cheeks but find that it’s way too light and frosty for my lips. Sorry, but I don’t want to look like I’m walking onto the set of Dynasty.
Final Say: I feel like I have found the holy grail of blush. It gives me the most perfect rosy cheeks and makes me look fresh and lively and like I’m 19 again. I can’t wait to buy it in a few more colors–hopefully one of them will look better on my lips?

Beauty Product Review: Phytomer Perfect Visage Gentle Cleansing Milk

Phytomer Cleansing MilkWinter makes my combination skin downright moody. Since I use toners to safeguard against breakouts and retinol cream to prevent aging, I always have a dry patch somewhere on my face… which, you guessed it, inevitably leads to more breakouts. Desperate to find a soothing cleanser that would end this vicious cycle, I turned to my aesthetician at SoHo’s Skin Care Lab for advice. She suggested Phytomer Perfect Visage Gentle Cleansing Milk. Here’s the lowdown:

Product: Phytomer Perfect Visage Gentle Cleansing Milk
Details: A creamy yet non-greasy cleanser that removes makeup and impurities without stripping skin of its essential oils.
Price: $33.50
Pros: The silky formula gently washes away makeup and leaves my skin feeling soft and soothed while giving me a radiant complexion. The cleanser’s subtle, fresh scent is a major plus!
Cons: As a rule I only use oil-free products, so the fact that one of the ingredients is hazel seed oil doesn’t make me the happiest. It hasn’t made me break out yet, but will it?
Final Say: This cleanser has become an integral part of my before-bed beauty regimen. I love how soothing it is, and appreciate that it’s a cleanser and makeup remover in one. Now I go to bed with soft, clean skin that smells like I’ve just come from a facial. I can’t get enough of it!

Beauty Product Review: Julien Farel Vitamin Restore Haircare Treatment

Julien Farel Vitamin RestoreThere’s an ongoing joke in my family that if we can’t find my mom, it probably means that she’s getting her hair done. Make no mistake about it, she is a very put together lady! When I was growing up, she always taught me to prioritize my beauty regimen: never go to sleep with makeup on, never underestimate the power of expensive eye cream, and never go longer than 6 months without a haircut. The haircut “rule” is what spurs my obsession for haircare products. Constantly on the search for the best shampoo, hair masks, and serums for my hair, I recently discovered Julien Farel’s Vitamin Restore, a 2-in-1 shampoo and deep conditioning treatment. My review is below:

Product: Julien Farel Vitamin Restore
Details: A paraben-free, anti-aging hair treatment that cleanses, heals, and conditions your scalp, bringing your hair back to a healthy state and leaving your strands visibly softer, shinier, and more manageable. Made specifically for color and chemically treated hair.
Price: $33 at Dermstore.com
Pros: As far as packaging goes, I love the squeeze bottle with easy nozzle applicator. The product makes my hair super soft and lustrous, and eliminates flyaways… and did I mention it makes my hair super soft?
Cons: The product gives off a slightly toxic smell in the shower. It’s not overwhelming and my hair smells nice and fresh when it’s rinsed and dry, but while the treatment is setting I can’t help but think is this stuff bad for me?
Final Say: I give it a 4 out of 5! If you want to look like you just left the salon, this is the product for you. I love how soft, smooth, and shiny my hair is after using it–I can’t stop touching it!

P.S.: I should mention that even though Vitamin Restore is specifically designed for color or chemically treated hair, my locks are neither of those things. Visit julienfarel.com for more information on Julien Farel’s other cleansing conditioning treatments.
