Mood Board Monday: Gray

Bona Style Gray Moodboard

I have a weakness for gray in every shade, especially when it’s cold outside. I love it light-hued, heathered, and strewn across my couch in the form of a comfy, cashmere throw. I love it as a rich, charcoal turtleneck that warms my senses and my skin. I love matching it with shy pastels during the day and brazen metallics at night. I love it for its muted elegance and for its demureness. I love that I can spell it two different ways: gray or grey. And most of all, I love it for all of the possibilities it offers.

Fair Isle Flair: Classic Knitwear with a Twist

Jaime King in Fair Isle
Christmas day Instagram selfie of model Jaime King wearing JCPenney’s I “Heart” Ronson Fair Isle Sweater (available at JCPenney stores for $25).

Fair isle sweaters are the kind of wintry, country club staple that will never go out of style. This timeless trend that originated in Scotland in the early 1900s has been immortalized over the years by fashion figures such as Marilyn Monroe, Twiggy, and Paul McCartney. Today, fair isle knits hold court beside tweed blazers and rubber wellies in the closets of outdoorsy prepsters everywhere. But while more traditional brands such as Ralph Lauren and L.L. Bean have perfected the classic, leisure time look, newer fashion houses have refreshed the preppy-chic basic. Proenza Schouler breathed life into the intarsia knit with neon colors and contrasting graphic designs (worn by Keri Russell, below), while Moncler gave a flirty edge to the otherwise demure style by creating an open backed version with rear grosgrain ribbon fastening.

Whatever style you choose, it’s up to you to bring your own spin to it. Above, model Jaime King pairs her JCPenney I “Heart Ronson fair isle with a fashionable fur collar. What will you do to make your fair isle sweater stand out?

Here’s What Happens When You Pair an LBD with Summertime Corals…

Tropic Thunder

As much as I love my job, I often spend summer days at the office daydreaming of bright and sunshiny weekends outside. What’s a hard-working stylephile to do? For me, a simple remedy for the summertime blahs can be as simple as adding some snap to an outfit. Balancing neutral, work-appropriate staples with breezy accessories and pops of Continue reading “Here’s What Happens When You Pair an LBD with Summertime Corals…”

I “Heart” Honor’s Fall 2013 Collection

image

Fashion designer Giovanna Randall is one of the girliest girls you will ever meet so it came as no surprise that her Fall 2013 collection, which debuted yesterday in Chelsea, is a refreshing mix of beautifully tailored, uber-feminine pieces. As models walked the runway, they  flaunted pale pink wool coats, bright pink brocade trousers, and black and white ensembles, all  embellished with pink heart shaped rhinestones or heart cutouts. The designer’s emphasis on playful  heart motifs and the color pink  were a breath of fresh air for fashion editors who are so used to seeing dismal shades of brown and gray on fall runways.  My guess is that Honor’s fall collection was Randall’s way of saying Happy Valentines Day.
