Friday Fave: Smith & Cult Lip Lacquers

smithandcultSmith and Cult has just released a new line of lip lacquers! Great news for those of us who prefer paraben-free lip glosses, which also happen to be gluten-free and vegan too. The line of glosses is made up of ultra-feminine, easy-to-wear shades of pink, plum, and red and come in names that are as equally enticing–High Speed Sonnet, Her Name Bubbles, The Lovers, and The Queen Is Dead are just a few. Smith & Cult founder (a.k.a. Hard Candy co-founder) Dineh Mohajer called her line of lacquers The Shining, after Stanley Kubrick’s film, telling Nylon the name “seemed perfectly fitting, since it captured the objectives of the collection: To be shockingly shiny and scary addictive.” Prepare to be hooked.

Smith & Cult is available at Neiman Marcus

Beauty Product Review: Benefit They’re Real! Mascara

Benefit They're Real! Mascara with hashtag
I’m a makeup purist, but if there’s one thing I like to go a bit daring with it’s my eyelashes. Since I don’t wear a lot of makeup, I’m constantly searching for a mascara that makes my long lashes look fuller and my eyes pop. Have I found it in Benefit They’re Real! mascara? Keeping reading to find out…

Product: Benefit They’re Real! mascara
Details: An inky-black, long-lasting mascara that makes lashes look long and voluminous while keeping their curl in tact.
Price: $24 at Sephora
Pros: Lengthening and volumizing with the help of a strategically spiky plastic brush.
Cons: Long-lasting to a fault.
Final Say: I give They’re Real! a 4 out of 5. I’ve been using it for a little more than a month now and I love how long, full, and dramatic my lashes look and how easily they keep their curl with this formula. The plastic, spiky wand is awesome, too–the staggered bristles lift from the root for extra umph and also help me apply the mascara evenly. The only downside? I appreciate the long-lasting formula, but removing the mascara can be a pain. No matter how much I tug at my lashes with makeup remover, I feel like they’re never 100% clean when I go to sleep.

Mood Board Monday: Gray

Bona Style Gray Moodboard

I have a weakness for gray in every shade, especially when it’s cold outside. I love it light-hued, heathered, and strewn across my couch in the form of a comfy, cashmere throw. I love it as a rich, charcoal turtleneck that warms my senses and my skin. I love matching it with shy pastels during the day and brazen metallics at night. I love it for its muted elegance and for its demureness. I love that I can spell it two different ways: gray or grey. And most of all, I love it for all of the possibilities it offers.

Beauty Product Review: YSL Baby Doll Kiss and Blush

Bona Style Blog YSL Kiss and Blush No. 2I’m all about easy makeup, which is why I’m obsessed with YSL Baby Doll Kiss and Blush. Here’s why you should be too:

Product: YSL Baby Doll Kiss and Blush, shade No. 2
Details: A 2-in-1 ultra-blendable, air-whipped mousse makeup that adds color to your cheeks and lips.
Price: $40.00
Pros: The smooth mousse formula is both moisturizing and long-lasting. The gel-like consistency makes it easy to blend into your cheeks and lips with your fingers. It gives me the perfect, natural flushed look–like my cheeks are glowing from within! The applicator sponge is slightly angled and pear shaped which is ideal for dotting and smoothing the product on my cheeks and lips.
Cons: I love, love, love this color for my cheeks but find that it’s way too light and frosty for my lips. Sorry, but I don’t want to look like I’m walking onto the set of Dynasty.
Final Say: I feel like I have found the holy grail of blush. It gives me the most perfect rosy cheeks and makes me look fresh and lively and like I’m 19 again. I can’t wait to buy it in a few more colors–hopefully one of them will look better on my lips?

How to Avoid a Fashion Crisis on New Year’s Eve

NYE Style InspoEveryone knows that New Year’s eve is overrated, and yet we put so much pressure on ourselves to make it THE BEST night of the year. The least we can do is take the guesswork out of getting dressed for the occasion. Whether I’m spending the New Year skiing in the Rockies or in this concrete jungle I call home, I always stick to the same uniform–sequins and jazzy nails. This year I’m throwing in smudge-proof lip stain and an easy undo to complete my look.

No matter what you decide to wear, just remember that you look best when you feel most comfortable.

Happy partying!
