Beauty Product Review: Benefit They’re Real! Mascara

Benefit They're Real! Mascara with hashtag
I’m a makeup purist, but if there’s one thing I like to go a bit daring with it’s my eyelashes. Since I don’t wear a lot of makeup, I’m constantly searching for a mascara that makes my long lashes look fuller and my eyes pop. Have I found it in Benefit They’re Real! mascara? Keeping reading to find out…

Product: Benefit They’re Real! mascara
Details: An inky-black, long-lasting mascara that makes lashes look long and voluminous while keeping their curl in tact.
Price: $24 at Sephora
Pros: Lengthening and volumizing with the help of a strategically spiky plastic brush.
Cons: Long-lasting to a fault.
Final Say: I give They’re Real! a 4 out of 5. I’ve been using it for a little more than a month now and I love how long, full, and dramatic my lashes look and how easily they keep their curl with this formula. The plastic, spiky wand is awesome, too–the staggered bristles lift from the root for extra umph and also help me apply the mascara evenly. The only downside? I appreciate the long-lasting formula, but removing the mascara can be a pain. No matter how much I tug at my lashes with makeup remover, I feel like they’re never 100% clean when I go to sleep.

Mood Board Monday: Gray

Bona Style Gray Moodboard

I have a weakness for gray in every shade, especially when it’s cold outside. I love it light-hued, heathered, and strewn across my couch in the form of a comfy, cashmere throw. I love it as a rich, charcoal turtleneck that warms my senses and my skin. I love matching it with shy pastels during the day and brazen metallics at night. I love it for its muted elegance and for its demureness. I love that I can spell it two different ways: gray or grey. And most of all, I love it for all of the possibilities it offers.

Mood Board Monday: Fringe

Fringe Benefits_bonastyle.comWhen I was 18, one of my sisters went to Milan for a business trip and brought me back the most gorgeous chocolate brown suede Bottega Veneta bag I’d ever seen. It was micro-mini hobo style purse with Bottega’s signature intrecciato weaving throughout and, extending from the bottom of the bag, about 1 foot of soft, wispy fringe. Sadly I don’t have much use for the bag today since it doesn’t even come close to fitting my iPhone, but I will always cherish it and remember how daring and fashionable the fringe made me feel when I wore it.

Look of the Week: Monique Lhuillier’s Pre-Fall 2015 Collection Wild Flower Gowns

Monique Lhuillier Instagram - Bona Style

I’m obsessed with Monique Lhuillier’s Instagram account. Whether she’s posting fabulous vacation pics or promoting a new collection, her photos are always an exciting addition to my Insta-feed. On Monday she posted a behind-the-scenes pic of models wearing her pre-fall 2015 collection–gorgeous silk gowns bursting with wild flowers and butterflies and coming alive with undulating folds of carefully crafted drapery. I saw this pic in the morning and honestly could not stop thinking about these dresses all day, daydreaming that I was sashaying around a black tie soirée in one of them. (Instead, I was at the office.) I’m still thinking about these dresses this morning, 5 days later which is why this is my fave look of the week.

Style Craving: Atelier Swarovski by Viktor & Rolf Velvet Triple Rock Cuff

Atelier Swarovski by Viktor & Rolf

Atelier Swarovski by Viktor & Rolf may be one of my favorite fashion collaborations yet. The jewelry line’s cuffs, especially the Velvet Triple Rock Cuff (pictured above), are both striking and versatile. Made of soft, wintry velvet and edgy, black Swarovski crystals, the blingin’ cuffs are the harmonious marriage between downtown cool and uptown chic. If only I could get one in time for NYE!
